In our view, companies must produce safe products and services, in accordance with federal consumer product safety guidelines.

Thus, we do not encourage investment in major manufacturers of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products because we believe they contribute to a variety of economic and health problems. We exclude companies that operate gambling establishments. While we realize that not all conflicts can be resolved peacefully, we do believe in the peaceful resolution of conflict. We do not encourage investment in firearms manufacturers and retailers, nor do we encourage investment in companies involved significantly in weapons production. We define "significant involvement" as companies that produce weapons or weapons systems, or critical components of weapons, or companies that manufacture nuclear weapons or any critical component of nuclear weapons. This approach excludes the major weapons producers.

We support companies that produce and market goods and services that improve health and quality of life; that maintain quality control and customer satisfaction; that respond promptly and constructively to correct problems with product safety; that demonstrate integrity in advertising and labeling; and that provide a strong rationale for testing consumer products on animals and commit to phasing in alternatives to animal testing. We also ask companies to demonstrate their progress toward the elimination of animal testing.
